Artist Statement

The complexity of self-expression is a fully immersive process. Life is my muse. My creativity is guided by intuition and feelings. For as long as I can remember, my own personal self-expression has been about traversing the fine line between extremes. Opposites, coexisting, passionately woven together, by a gentle heart.

My work explores themes of pain, tenderness, beauty, attachment, self-imposed boundaries, ancestral trauma, resourcefulness, and healing. Fascinated by the versatility of fibers, I love to work with layers and textures. I believe that things hold memory and every piece of worn and torn fabric that I work with holds a rich story of what was and what currently is. I am driven by the desire to create something beautiful out of broken, discarded, and unwanted things. To showcase jewels that go unnoticed and to communicate the feelings of love, joy, remoteness, hope, optimism, and vulnerability that bubble to the surface.

My design process often starts with the challenge of finding or sourcing suitable raw materials to work with. I find visual inspiration from a diverse range of materials that present as opportunities to repurpose or upcycle. Creating a story, and my emotional connection to it, is a vital part of my art making and it often informs the direction and aesthetics a specific piece or collection will take.
